The two attached components of Centering Student Voice are a combined case study and presentation from EDUC 635- Educating Exceptional Students taught by Karine Veldhoen. I believe both are extremely relevant to today’s classroom as they provide a snapshot of two students with neurodiversities that I worked with in the conventional classroom setting.
Â
I feel that this case study is particularly unique because it chronicles the elementary school experience of two siblings, both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who could not be more different in terms of their social relationships, academic achievements, and perspectives on education in general.
Â
This brother and sister, perhaps more than any other two students that I’ve ever worked with, highlighted the vastness of what it means to be diagnosed with ASD. As a result, these two attached works have created a new perspective for myself in my current teaching context as a learning support teacher.Â
Â
While this was one of my first assignments that I submitted during this program, I still feel it is completely relevant and topical to the interactions that I have with neurodiverse students on a daily basis.Â
