This work was the continuation of my Researcher Situatedness paper in EDUC 601- Educational Research Design and Methodology with Dr. Shirley Giroux. It builds upon the initial recognition(s) that I developed regarding Mixed-Methods research and worked to adopt a level of pragmatism that recognizes the inherent value associated with multiple research methods.

As such, it highlights one component of my guiding question for this portfolio, and that is the function of male teachers as “role models” in the lives of the students that they work with everyday. This was also my first real attempt at a literature review as a graduate student, and displayed the value of grouping like sources and research thematically to greater aid in the development of quality writing.

Additionally, it brought forward valuable questions in my own research and practice, those being the concepts of stereotypical masculinity and heteronormativity, and how they dramatically shape the public perception(s) surrounding male educators in non-traditional teaching roles.

This paper refined my understanding of the ideas surrounding the strengths and potential limitations that are inherent with the varying research methodologies and their specific research methods. As a result, I feel that this work effectively shows a growing understanding and knowledge surrounding the different facets, advantages and restrictions of multiple research types.
